John Galt Speaking is a site inspired by Ayn Rand’s masterpiece, Atlas Shrugged. Atlas Shrugged integrates the basic elements of an entire philosophy (called Objectivism) into a highly complex, yet dramatically compelling plot which highlights the destructive effects of government intervention in the free market, Capitalism and the free will of the people. The hero in Atlas Shrugged, John Galt, organizes a strike among the great minds and industrial powers of the United States to combat the Government intervention and as a result, stops the “motor of the world” in the process.
Published in 1957, Atlas Shrugged has experienced a great resurgence in popularity as many of the themes covered in the novel are playing out in the present day. In 2010, Atlas Shrugged reached as high as 11 in Amazon.com best seller list. Pretty amazing considering it’s a 53 year old novel. Next to the Bible, it was listed by the Library of Congress and Readers Digest as the most influential novel of our times.
